Objectives

The Lesson Study in Future Teacher Education (LIFT) project aims to develop a European blueprint for the professional development approach Lesson Study (LS) to support pre-service teachers (PSTs) and their teacher educators (TEs) in Initial Teacher Education (ITE). Six European countries (Netherlands, Ireland, Estonia, Cyprus, Portugal, Switzerland) will localise the blueprint in 14 ITE programmes. An online LS platform is created to connect educators and researchers across countries.

Activities

The LIFT blueprint is used throughout the project to support PST’s development. Activities are 1. Create a LS programme for PSTs and TEs to sample characteristics of good LS-ITE practices 2. Develop the LIFT blueprint 3. Train TEs to pilot the blueprint in partners’ ITE programmes 4. Create a shared digital platform for supporting materials, programme-related data, the various outputs and for network development by partners and prospective users 5. Outreach to the (inter)national LS community

Impact

The LIFT project consists of 5 work packages (WP) leading to: 1) monitoring and management of the project (WP1); 2) an immersion programme (WP2); 3) a LIFT blueprint with guidelines and resources to guide PSTs and TEs through LS in English and local languages (WP3); 4) training for TEs to initiate LS and pilot the blueprint in each partner’s local ITE context (WP4) 5) a project website, different social media channels, publication and outreach to the wider practitioner and academic communities
