Objectives

TWIG project aims to make our cities healthier and more climate resilient by adding greenery to concrete and by raising generations that will produce solutions to mitigate the effects of global climate change with the STEM education system. Students and teachers from three different countries will work together on three challenging activities of urban reforestation in order to give everyone the opportunity to enjoy green space in town.

Activities

Through cross-border learning mobilities the participants will share green skills and STEM learning approach. Students will be engaged in a series of preparatory STEM workshops in Macedonia, Italy and Portugal that will help them create their own balcony gardens freely inspired from the idea of Milan’s Vertical Forest, they will monitor the health of a tree canopy like US citizens already do in their cities and finally they will realize the first community garden in Olhão.

Impact

-Involve young learners in environmental protection activities. -Increase innovative thinking through STEM since school students learn new ways of observing. -Analyze and solve issues. -Make urban green space available for all citizens and reduce heat islands. -Foster collaboration and communication through team working. -Strengthen the relationship between citizens and institutions. -Create a new transcultural mentality and openness to diversity.
