▶Objectives
This project assists (oncoming) foreign language teachers in secondary education and teacher educators in their professional development through a blended training course in which they learn how to effectively use (Gen)AI to support evidence-informed foreign language learning strategies (feedback, retrieval practice,...). The main goal is to empower them with the knowledge and skills they need to effectively navigate the intersection of evidence-informed foreign language learning (FLL) and AI.
▶Activities
The project unites experts in digital and/or language education to design a blended training course on the use of AI to support evidence-informed FLL. The training course is implemented in the participating initial teacher educations, school communities and organizations providing continuous professional development. Additionally, in a ‘Teach the Trainer’ Module teacher educators - who are not involved in this project - learn how to implement the training course in their language curricula.
▶Impact
The blended training course makes (oncoming) foreign language teachers more able and willing to engage with AI for instructional purposes. It equips them with the necessary skills to thoughtfully enhance evidence-informed FLL with AI which is essential since AI will play a significant role in future language learning. The ‘Teach the Trainer’ Module expands the reach of this course, making it accessible to every teacher educator who wants to empower their students in the AI era.
