Objectives

The aging population in the EU faces challenges with maintaining balance, which significantly increases the risk of falls. The STEP-UP project proposes a holistic approach involving assessment, education, and online resources to empower older people and promote safer living. This educational initiative aims to equip older people with the necessary understanding and tools to navigate their daily activities safely, thus enhancing their autonomy and quality of life and reducing healthcare costs.

Activities

The planned activities for the STEP-UP project are as follows: • Assessment of older people needs and challenges concerning fall prevention and safe living, through surveys and consultations with healthcare professionals and caregivers. • Selection and customization of educational tools and methods to meet the identified needs, ensuring they are user-friendly and accessible for the elderly demographic. • Development of an educational toolkit on fall prevention and safe living practices.

Impact

The expected project results are: • A comprehensive toolkit on fall prevention and safe living practices for older people. • An E-learning platform with courses (modules and videos) on fall prevention and safe living practices. The expected outcomes involve: • Enhanced autonomy and safety awareness among the older people in the EU. • Reduction in fall incidents and related healthcare costs. • Improved quality of life and well-being. • Greater accessibility to vital education on safe living.
