The LB2.00 project aims to drastically increase Braille literacy by: 1) Support non-specialized school teachers by providing a pedagogic concept of how to teach Braille in an inclusive learning environment. 2) Develop and test playful, multimodal learning and training courses for born-blind, late-blind and severely visually impaired people. 3) Make both the pedagogic concept and the courses available for free. The ambition is to develop a European standard for teaching Braille

LB 2.00 will develop a universal pedagogic concept for teaching Braille by non-specialized teachers that can be adapted to many of languages. Based on the pedagogic concept training courses will be developed and tested with the three target groups (born-blind, late-blind, visually impaired). The validated courses can be downloaded for free via the ProBlind database. Also, conferences will be held to disseminate the results and establish the courses as the European standard for learning Braille.

The direct impact of the project is to improve Braille literacy amongst blind people. This is achieved by enabling non-specialized teachers to teach Braille and by motivating the target group to learn and practice by providing multimodal, fun learning materials. The ultimate impact is that by improving Braille literacy the educational and professional opportunities of the target group improve which has a very positive influence on their personal, professional and financial independence.
