▶Objectives
This project aims to map activities (research and education) focused on the sports nutrition and more specifically on prevention of Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs) in the Nordic region and conduct a needs and interest analysis among relevant stakeholders (athletes, coaches, parents, support staff, sports federations, Olympic committees) on REDs prevention. Based on the outcomes, the aim is to harmonise and further develop and construct education activities focused on prevention.
▶Activities
The main activities consist of an online survey targeting sports science researchers and practitioners to discover current practices (Activity 1) as well as a Delphi survey to athletes, coaches, parents, sports federations, and Olympic committees to identify knowledge gaps and needs related to REDs prevention (Activity 2). Upon completion, an in-person workshop for key partners will help us harmonise and develop educational programs for REDs prevention across the Nordics (Activity 3).
▶Impact
We will prepare a report of key findings on current sports nutrition and REDs prevention activities across the Nordic countries and what stakeholders find meaningful to be shared with stakeholders and communicated through media channels. An article based on findings from Activity 2 will be published and presented at an international research conference. Overall, the project will enhance collaboration, knowledge exchange and harmonise resources to education and research across the Nordics.
