The BRIDGE project aims to transform detention for young adults by promoting small-scale community-integrated detention houses as a replacement to large prisons. By engaging policymakers, justice professionals, & civil society, BRIDGE advocates for systemic reforms for young adults in conflict with the law that align with EU justice priorities. It includes the systematic mapping of existing youth detention practices, innovative advocacy efforts in a blueprint and the European-wide dissemination.

BRIDGE develops trainings, policy recommendations, study visits and a blueprint, allowing policymakers and justice professionals to observe best practices firsthand. Aiming to improve the treatment of young adults in conflict with the law, to support community integration and to equip professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to implement detention houses. The project will also organize job-shadowing opportunities, host roundtables, and engage in advocacy to influence justice reform.

BRIDGE will deliver a blueprint for detention houses for young adults in conflict with the law, engage policymakers and practitioners in justice reform discussions, and create sustainable knowledge-sharing networks, ensuring long-term impact on justice policies. A dissemination strategy, social media campaigns, online learning platforms, and conferences, will ensure that the BRIDGE’s insights reach target groups, creating awareness and encouraging policy adoption across Europe.
