Objectives

The first goal is the education of pharmacists, patients with polypharmacy, and parents with children under 12 about pharmaceutical waste (PW) and its environmental and health consequences. The second goal is the motivation and encouragement of the public to change PW disposal habits. The long-term goal is increasing the rate of people properly disposing of PW, contributing to environmental protection, reducing antimicrobial resistance development, and improving public health across the region.

Activities

The project activities include the creation and development of educational and promotional materials and digital tools. Educational activities include Continuing Medical Education sessions for pharmacists and online and live workshops for patients with polypharmacy and parents with children under 12 years, complemented by awareness and info days. Public campaign and dissemination activities will enable reaching out to more people, encouraging them to properly dispose of PW.

Impact

The main outcome will be improved knowledge of PW among pharmacists, patients, and parents. This result may contribute to the increased rate of the public properly disposing of PW in the future. Changed practice and habits regarding PW can contribute to the realization of the European Green Deal and Sustainable Development Goals principles. Digital resources would ensure long-term access to disposal information, promoting sustainable waste management and environmental responsibility.
