Summary

In line with the objectives described as part of the project description and application, the final outcomes of the project are the European Traditional Sports and Games (TSG) State of Play report, and the establishment of the European Platform for Traditional Sports and Games. The European TSG State of Play has been printed in 300 copies and is available for download on www.tsgplatform.org. It is a report that establishes a common understanding of the situation of TSG in Europe, in the fields of policy, research and practice. It includes the conclusions of a study on how TSG are integrated in international, European, national and regional policy papers, defines priorities for development and provides the European Union (European Commission, European Parliament, Committee of Regions…), its member states (ministry of sports, national sport bodies, national olympic committees…), and the Council of Europe with recommendations for policy-making. It features the conclusions of a study on how TSG are dealt with by the research field, draws priorities and provides recommendations to universities, research & academic centres and scholars where to direct future research. Finally, it includes the conclusions of a study how TSG are structured, safeguarded and promoted in Europe. A new classification of organisations working with TSG is suggested, as well as a typology of actions that have proven to work, in practice, to enhance the development of TSG. Recommendations are put forward to practitioners and any stakeholders and organisations interested in TSG, at all levels, how they may implement effective strategies and actions. The European Platform for Traditional Sports and Games has been launched as both an informal entity that is defined by a constitution paper, and an online tool. The platform’s constitution paper, developed during the project, defines the platform’s status, vision, mission, objectives, target groups, activities, governance and financing for the future, ensuring that a sustainable action is led as a legacy of the project. The online tool, which is the platform’s website www.tsgplatform.org, comprises all project results: the European TSG State of Play, the platform’s constitution, an online directory of international and European policy papers and resolutions mentioning TSG, an online directory of organisations working in the field of TSG in Europe, an online directory of good practices and inspirations, a European TSG bibliography and an online directory of scholars and universities in the field of TSG.What the project has achieved is the unification of the current knowledge about TSG in Europe into a one-stop-shop where information is available to any interested stakeholder to enhance policy, research and practice in the field.
