Summary

Sport4Citizens project brought together 5 municipalities from post-communist countries with the aim to promote voluntary activities of municipalities’ citizens in sport. Partners from Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia and Serbia have implemented local events (12-week campaign and 2 Choose Your Sport Days) with the aim to:- promote sport activities among physically inactive citizens as a way to improve health- to promote sports among special target groups (seniors, people with social difficulties)- to promote sport activities as a way of social inclusion of ethnical or other minorities- to use sport as a way to bring citizens together and stimulate community life- to promote non-traditional sport arts and to promote traditional European sports practice in other fields of Europe- to promote intergenerational dialogue through sport activitiesThe project has focused on two target groups: children and elderly.Thanks to SPORT4CITIZENS project and support from Erasmus+:- more than 24 500 citizens have participated in 12-week campaigns promoting voluntary sport activities in Prague 5, Újbuda, Bratislava – Petržalka, Belgrade – Savski Venac- more than 75 300 citizens have participated in 1st and 2nd Choose Your Sport Days promoting voluntary sport activities in Prague 5, Újbuda, Bratislava – Petržalka, Belgrade – Savski Venac- cooperation with stakeholders in the field of sports on local level has improved. Partner municipalities have implemented the project in close cooperation with local sport clubs, experts, schools, elderly homes and other organisations working with target groups.- feedback from the event participants was gathered and evaluation and quality control was performed. Some partners have performed this for the first time for their activities and this feedback has been taken into account in event of further eventsFurthermore, another important aspect of the project has been exchange of experience and best practices among partners in the field of sport governance and promotion of active life style among citizens. Best practices have been disseminated to other European municipalities and actors.
