Summary

The Anti-doping GREEN SEAL project deals with the issue of doping in the context of recreational sports. The project is co-financed by the Erasmus+ – Sport –Collaborative partnerships – program under the call for proposals 2017 (EAC/A03/2016).Historically, anti-doping efforts have focused on the fight against doping in competitive and elite sport through National Anti-Doping Organizations (NADOs). Currently, there is recognition that doping outside of elite and competitive sporting systems are growing and it is becoming a problematic phenomenon that may be developing into serious societal and public health concerns. The most effective ways to combat doping include prevention and raising the awareness about its harmfulness, and that is exactly what the project GREEN SEAL is aimed at.The main objectives of the project GREEN SEAL are to define a consistent and a collective understanding of which doping substances are used in the context of recreational sport; to establish an evidence based assessment of the problem, and develop the comprehensive preventive program to conduct a raising awareness campaign in six EU countries (Spain, Poland, Belgium, United Kingdom, Italy and Croatia). The Project Consortium includes Spanish Agency for Health Protection in Sport as the Project Coordinator and Rijeka Sport’s Association, Parent Community Sports Trust, Institut de Haute Formation aux Politiques Communautaires ASBL, John Paul II Sport Foundation,Institute for the development of Sport and Education as the Partner Organizations. In order to meet the project aims, the Ethical Code regarding doping in recreational sports has been developed. This will be supported - but not made obligatory - by the participating organization in their environments, and to provide the Green Seal to all recreational sports settings and centres committed to following the rules and standards established in theEthical Code. Also, the project is aimed at raising awareness campaigns of the problem of doping among youngsters in the recreational environments, the harmful effects of doping and the advantages that provide practicing recreational sports. The project contributes to the development of information and campaigns and other preventive measures regarding doping in recreational sport and related issues that could be applied by sports movements, fitness sectors, education systems and health sectors. Also, the project promotes cooperation between public authorities, private entities, the sport movement and fitness sector in the fight against doping in recreational sports.
