Summary

‘Nautilius’ was carried out by a partnership made up of 5 organizations operating in the field of sport, education, disability from 3 Countries:Italy, Greece and Turkey. The Italian swimming Association ‘A.P.D. V.MURGANO’, coordinator of the project; the Italian Association ‘Essenia UETP’;the 2 Greek partners ‘Directorate of Education of Pieria’ (Dieythinsi Defterovathmias Ekpaidefsis n Pierias) and swimming club ‘Asterias Sports Club’ (Kolymvitikos Athlitikos Omilos Asterias); the Turkish partner ‘Edirne Youth and Supporting Disabled Association’ (Edirne Genclik ve Engellileri Destekleme Dernegi). The objective of the two- year project was to exchange good practices, share ideas and methods in different areas related to sport and physical activity and its relevance for the inclusion of people with disability in the society.Target groups of the project were: teachers, trainers, volunteers, coaches, managers and staff of non-profit sport organizations, Schools and Education Authorities, associations. In order to exchange good practices in the field of disability and social inclusion through sport, in particular swimming, the organizations of the partnership have realized three transnational workshops focused on different relevant topics:1- Sport at school: the role of education in promoting swimming as a means of inclusion of learners with disability (May ‘18, Greece); 2- Mental and physical wellbeing through swimming (Nov ‘18, Italy); 3- Social Inclusion of people with disability through sport (May ‘19, Turkey). During the workshops each partner has shared, through power point presentations, audiovisual material and practical activities, the good practices applied in his organization/contexts/Countries. To spread what learnt at European level also to local stakeholders in the Countries of the partnership, all partners held a local seminar in their context after each European workshop, reaching 427 subjects. In this way, new methods, approaches and experiences have been transferred to favor their adaptation and adoption by entities and individuals external to the partnership. The good practices, results and recommendations emerged during the workshops and the debates with local stakeholders were analyzed, gathered and systematized in a ‘Guide of Good Practices on the Value of Sport’. It was designed by Essenia UETP and it includes also: information on the topics of Disability, Inclusion and Sport within a EU framework and the international directives on the theme; an interview to a Turkish Paralympic swimming champion involved in the project. The Guide of good practices is the main product of the project and it is available in four languages: English, Italian, Greek and Turkish. It is a free OER downloadable from the website of the project .An adequate project management activity has been carried out by the Coordinator, who has constantly supervised all the activities, supported by Essenia UETP, partner in charge of the Monitoring&Quality Assurance of processes and products. A wide and effective dissemination has been guaranteed by the implementation of a specific Dissemination Plan, designed by the ‘Directorate of Education of Pieria’, partner responsible for this transversal activity.Nautilius and its results have been strongly disseminated through offline and online communication channels events, website,Facebook page) and promotional products (project cards, newsletters, flyers, brochures, roll-ups, invitations). At the end of the project a Final Conference open to the wider public was held in Palermo and it involved relevant stakeholders (Councilor for Education, Regional sports activity coordinator at the Sicily Regional School Office Directorate,Responsible of intervention of social inclusion for people with disabilities of the Municipality of Palermo,Delegate of the Italian Paralympic Swimming Federation,Paralympic swimming trainers,Associations for people with disability).
