Summary

We have succesfully implemented the project according to the application. 3 events were organized by 3 clubs in 3 cities. Each event was of the same format: tournament for the athletes, meeting of coaches and staff, and sporting activities and promotion of sport and HEPA for local populations. As our goals with this project were three-fold (meetings of athletes for intercultural experience and increasing personal and intercultural skills and active citizenship; meetings of coaches for sharing methods and experience, for learning from each other and sharing best practices, for advancement of professional skills, for enhancing cooperation with other stakeholders and for working towards how to increase participation in sport among the youth and general populations; and three local events for promotion of sport and HEPA mong the local populations and for promotion of sport and basketball in particular), so the events were also three-fold. Each partner organized an event for the weekend - guests arrived on Friday, had a welcome evening and relaxed, on Saturday we held a tournament all day, including meetings of coaches and activities for local populations (parallel to the tournaments, as it was a day dedicated to sport), evening off and then on Sunday the teams did evaluation, meeting of the project team was held and then the guests went on a tour in the city, had lunch and then departed for home. First event was in Ljubljana, 14th-16th June 2019. We hosted 5 teams (3 Italian and 2 Croatian) and 3 guest local teams to match the guest team profiles. We had meeting of coaches on the topic of 'Institutional support and cooperation with the ecucational sector', including 3 school reps and one umbrella sport organization rep. We had apporximately 300 local people attending the sporting activities, from small children to the elderly. It was a big and successful event, luckily the weather was nice.Next tournament was in Varaždin, 30th August-2nd September. The event was of the same format, guest brought 2 teams (Slovenia) and 4 teams (Italy). 4 local teams were participating in the tournament. We had cca 150 visitors to the arena, sporting activities organized were table tennis and badminton. Topic of the meeting was 'Drop-out upon transition to higher education'.Last event was in Grosseto, Italy, 6th-8th September 2019. Slovenia brought one team and coaches and Croatia 2 teams. 2 local teams were participating in the event. We had cca 150 local people attending the event, with sporting activities including ball games and badminton outside the venue, overseen by volunteers. Topic of the meeting was 'The referee'.Afterwards, we did evaluation and prepared a set of recommedations on how to facilitate the operation of clubs as providers of sport to the population, in order to work towards improving participation in sport, as a result of our meetings and sharing of practices.Recommendations and other results were shared through our networks among the relevant stakeholders, including to national authorities on sport. Some recommendatons were meant for parents and families. We have estblished a network of grassroots basketball clubs, dedicated to further cooperation towards improving the conditions ain badminton and cooperation in joint activities in the future. The network will also serve as a hub for sharing innformation and advocacy of our interest. The project was a success, with all the involved happy to be part of it and looking forward to further cooperation and projects (clubs, coaches, athletes).Benefits include wider network of cooperation, international experience and increased competences for clubs and coaches, but also new acquaintances and a better sense of connectedness with their peers from other countries for the athletes. We will strive towards taking our recommendations into practice and continue our work on improving conditions in basketball and promoting physical activity and sport.
