Background According to the World Health Organization, mental disorders are among the most significant challenges in Europe. 6 out of the 20 countries with the highest suicide rates in the world are in this area. Scientific evidence has shown how physical activity improves the psychophysical wellbeing of people with mental health problems. Regular exercise plays an important role in preventing mental disorders and enhancing the quality of life of those living with these problems. Objectives The main aim of the proejct is to provide knowledge, rules and guidelines about the benefits of sport and physical activity on mental health and promote psychiatric rehabilitation programs focused on sport and physical activity. Implementation -Research of best practices in the EU regarding sport and mental health, release of a best practices review and digital map. -Definition of general guidelines to train the trainers and promote sport in psychiatric rehabilitation.-Implementation of pilot actions focused on structured exercise for psychiatric patients and release of data.-Definition of the SPHERE sports scientific protocol.-Several dissemination events of the project objectives, outputs and outcomes. Achievements -125 SPHERE logo proposals from 25 countries for the logo contest-1 survey, 100 practices from EU countries and 30 best practices selected-19 Training guidelines for sports trainers in 9 languages-5 pilot actions with more than 80 psychiatric patients involved in 4 countries -1 SPHERE protocol disseminated at EU Level-4 MSEs in Italy with more than 140 participants-2 TPMs and 3 e-TPMs, including-7 national webinars- 1 final conference at EU level-1 academic paper
