Summary

Background In recent years the integration and social inclusion of youth with an immigrant background (YIB) in the EU has emerged as an urgent yet controversial issue. All around the EU, civil unrest can be seen from frustrated youth. Young people with an immigration background are more likely to become not in education, employment, or training than their native-born counterparts. One key recommended policy action and development area is using the potential of sport to enhance social inclusion. Objectives Based on the issues emphasized on the EU White Paper on Sport (2007) the four key objectives of this transnational project were: 1. Advance equal opportunities and enhance social inclusion Youth with Immigrant Background using sports as the main tool, 2. Strengthening cross-sectoral collaboration of grassroot level stakeholders multilaterally 3. Activation of migrant youth into sports and active citizenship 4. Integration of YIB's into society through education and employmet. Implementation Main idea was create well-being through sport for our target group and catch up YIB’s through all implemented activities. Sport was used as a catapult or one opportunity to reach YIB’s. Educational events and activities supported employment and possibilities to combine sport’s and education and helped YIB’s to become active actors. Cooperation together with different stakeholders made networking possible and this kind of cross-sectoral collaboration makes possible to create better services. Achievements Best practices and recommended Service Packages for YIB's: Using sports as a tool for developing well-being through Sports, using sports as a tool of education and using sports as a tool of employment and recruitments to sports organizations. Study of the sports service networks for YIB’s in different locationsand recommended operational model for Cross-Sectoral Collaboration locally and at the European level.
