Summary

Background Sport is traditionally a male-dominated sector and progress in gender equality is hindered by the social constructions of femininity and masculinity, which often associate sport with ‘masculine’ characteristics, such as physical strength and resilience, speed, and a highly competitive, sometimes confrontational spirit.A gap in the participation of male and female in sport activities identified by many EU and national organizations, exists at the level of practitioners, manager and coaches Objectives The proposed project aimed at developing a network among female basketball clubs to exchange good practices and compare ideas and approaches to encourage equal opportunities between male and female in sport activities. The possibility to operate at transnational level, in addition to improve and diversify the approaches to gender equality of each project partner, has enhanced the efficiency and effectiveness of the local actions increasing the tangible impacts of the project of all targets. Implementation One kick off meeting and 5 international events were organised during the project targeting different categories of sport club stakeholders (managers, coaches, athletes).Meetings were organised in the three partners’ countries, namely Venafro (Italy), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Beograd (Serbia). All the activities planned in the project were implemented with success. Achievements All the planned results were achieved. The main project outputs were i) the improved skills of sport club managers and female coaches; ii) more than 70 young athletes with improved international experience and networking; iii) presentations to improve marketing strategies and better approach female athletes; iv) the creation of an international network among female basketball clubs; v) an increased awareness regarding the support that EU institutions are giving to sport and sport operators.
