Background Volleyball is very popular among young girls and the Volley4EU project used volleyball as a powerful tool in working with young girls to promote physical activity, healthy lifestyles and to raise awareness on positive effects of volleyball for personal development and wellbeing. Objectives The Volley4EU Project aimed at creating the European network of volleyball clubs for sharing experiences and good practices in promotion of female volleyball. The specific aim of the project was to promote volleyball and sporting activities for girls, so that they can enjoy in playing volleyball and benefit fully from physical activity. Implementation 3 transnational meetings and 6 virtual meetings were the ideal way for sharing experiences among partners and organizing the final sport event in Italy. The “First International Women’s Volleyball Tournament Volley4EU” gathered 18 teams with more than 150 girls form 4 EU Countries (14-18 years old) for a weekend of sport and friendship; young athletes had the opportunity to enjoy playing volleyball and having fun all together, promoting the true values of sport and the values of the EU. Achievements Project’s results were largely positive: creation of the EU network, development of the European dimension of grassroot volleyball clubs and their capacity to cooperate at EU level, 150+ girls played in the International Tournament and the sport event reached out a wide audience. Finally, the project laid down the basis for strengthening cooperation with Municipalities, for sustainability of the network and for future enlargement with other clubs in other EU Countries.
