Summary

Background The project involved adults age 55+ in demonstrations of traditional sports&games (TSG). Main approach - stimulate transfer of knowledge, skills and values between the two generations of 55+ sport volunteers and disadvantaged children. By doing this we proposed a solution to one of the major challenges disadvantaged children face – the lack of stable relationship with adult person, who they can trust and ask for advice. The project developed and fostered a common sense of EU belonging. Objectives To preserve and promote traditional sports and games as a unique tool for strengthening intercultural understanding with significant added value for the general wellbeing for individuals from all ages. Specific objectives include: •To preserve and promote traditional sports and games among young people from disadvantaged background; •To develop transnational network of organisations using traditional sports and games;•To exchange good practices;•To engage adults age 55+ as volunteers Implementation Despite the COVID restrictions the project implemented all planned activities-Developed research with 15 traditional games;developed video compendium with 15 traditional games;3 transnational workshops for exchange of knowledge, know-how and experience carried out; developed network of 66 coaches, instructors and physical education teachers; 3 national trainings carried out; 45 people age 55+ trained; 12 national demonstrations organised; >900 children and youth participated in demonstrations. Achievements •Developed research with 15 traditional games played in 3 countries•Video compendium with 15 videos of traditional sports and games•Three transnational workshops for exchange of knowledge, know-how and experience carried out•Developed network of coaches, instructors and physical education teachers •3 national trainings carried out •45 people age 55+ trained to play and teach traditional sport games• 9 national demonstrations organised•411 youth and children playing project's TSG
