Summary

Background Nowadays, it is becoming more and more important to encourage active citizenship, social inclusion, and solidarity of the society as whole. Our project advocated the idea, that active involvement in sports activities can importantly contribute to this end. This is especially true in the case of people with fewer opportunities who should be encouraged to engage more actively in free sports activities, to facilitate their more active communication and integration in the society. Objectives The main objective of our project was to advocate greater involvement of young people with fewer opportunities in free sports activities as a means to overcome their social exclusion in the society. We promoted active involvement in sports activities as a means to develop more positive virtues, such as a sense of belonging to a group and solidarity, and as an opportunity to form friendships and to facilitate better communication and understanding among the people with different backgrounds. Implementation In accordance with the primary aim of the project we were primarily focused on the organisation of different national and international sports events in different sport disciplines, where our target groups had an opportunity to interact with other participants from different backgrounds. We have also prepared a training seminar for trainers and social workers from this field. In our project meetings, we have actively engaged in the exchange of good practices and possible approaches. Achievements As the most important project results, we can recognize the successful implementation of national and international sports events. These events have presented a valuable experience for participants from different backgrounds on how involvement in sports can contribute to their active communication with other people and their inclusion in local communities. The project activities also contributed to greater exchange among our partners and professionals on possible approaches and practices.
