โ–ถSummary

Background BMX is one of the fastest growing modalities in Europe. BMX riders usually are self-coached or trained by former riders; actually many countries do not have an official BMX coaching program. So, to establish a professional environment, coaches and trainers formation is needed. This will result in a higher quality in the training of young riders, taking care of their safety, enhancing the beneficial effects of their sport, as well as an opportunity for riders to dual careers through training. Objectives The BMX Training to Win project has aimed to promote education in and through sport with special focus on skills development, with emphasis in coach training to improve the quality of sport career development and safety of young athletes. As specific objectives: 1) To design a BMX integral programme for coaches and trainers; 2) to promote BMX benefits for children and youth; and 3) to stimulate dual careers for BMX riders supporting their professional and educational development. Implementation To achieve these ambitious objectives, a BMX training needs analysis was carried out, a battery of tests was conducted so that the resulting training would be based on scientific advances and evidence. Finally, the lessons learned and the extensive experience of the consortium were applied to the creation of a MOOC BMX training course. Four transnational project meetings and seven virtual project meetings were carried on, as well three multiplier sport events to disseminate its results. Achievements Three intellectual outputs were developed, delivering two handbooks (one on training needs and one in scientifically training BMX), and a complete MOOC course. Handbooks were consulted by 580 people, 315 people were registered in the Course, and 95 obtained their Certificate. In the same way, three multiplier events were held to disseminate the main results: a Seminar on Training, a Workshop on the BMX Ecosystem and, finally, a Conference on Professionalisation in Minority Sports.
