Summary

Background LET’S SWIM is addressing the scarce of integrated swimming programs and competition (today mostly organized separately for disabled and non-disabled people) by familiarizing swimming coaches with Halliwick method. Halliwick is for all, regardless of age, physical or mental ability, focused on person’s abilities not disabilities. It encourages HEPA and equal opportunities in swimming for people with disabilities that leads to their better social inclusion and to overall better health. Objectives Main project objective is to contribute to and encourage HEPA, social inclusion (SI) and equal opportunities (EO) in sport/swimming for individuals with disabilities that will lead to their better SI and to overall better health condition. It will be achieved through: SC1 - to raise awareness about and to further upgrade relevant traits and coaches’ knowledge, competencies and skills necessary for coaching children and adults with disabilitiesSC2 - to encourage and promote SI and EO in sport Implementation Implementation approach was formulated in WBS consisting of 4 WPs with accompanying tasks:WP1 – Project managementWP2 – Sharing knowledge, experience and best practices about Halliwick ConceptWP3 – Knowledge transfer related to organization and execution of Gala competitionWP4 – dissemination of project outputs and organization of dissemination events (Halliwick concept topics, simulations of Gala competition) Achievements WP2: organized 4 Halliwick related events (knowledge upgrade) – fulfilled SC1; SC2 towards 1st & 2nd (project partners and their experts and coaches) and 3rd target group (other interested swimming clubs outside project)WP3: organized 2 Gala competition simulations - fulfilled SC1; SC2 towards final beneficiary group (current and future swimmers with disabilities, their parents, swimming clubs and associations); prepared Paper: Gala competition - findings and recommendations
