Promoting Senior Sports Across Boarders
▶Summary
Background As Europe has an aging population, senior citizens are subject to social exclusion and physically inactive lifestyle, while they deserve adapted physical activities according to their needs and opportunities. Such services are less developed in most of the partner countries, thus the partner organisations decided to participate in knowledge transfer in this field to develope programs for the elderly and to create promotional tools together. Objectives Our partnership was focusing primarily on knowledge transfer on senior sport programs, active aging possibilites and relevant promotional opportunities. The tools and activities for the share of knowledge included international project meetings linked to study visits at senior sport events, creation of awareness-raising materials (a promotional booklet and the video) and the analysis of the needs and feedbacks of seniors (a special survey for seniors). Implementation Transnational meetings combined with local senior sport programs were successfully implemented. Inspiring approaches of the physical activity at elderly age had been shared and learned. The „Happy aging through regular exercise and sport” promotional video and booklet (in 5 languages) with recommended exercises for seniors was released and distributed to senior communities and further relevant organisations. A survey was created and shared among the partner's network of senior participants. Achievements The partnership created opportunity for the participating entities to gather valuable professional recommendations based on the project experience, and to provide better programs for the seniors. The discussions about improvement of the senior programs among our experts brought added value for all partners. Porject outputs were shared both at local, national and international level. Dissemination and monitoring activities were ensured and they are running event beyond the project.
