SCHOOLJUDO.EU: A EU-Wide Primary School Ecosystem for the Judo Teaching

Background The core objective of SCHOOLJUDO.EU is to develop and pilot a pan-European training and educational module for primary schools, based on the core values of judo, by incrementally building upon the existing “Judo in School” Program to make it easily transferrable to the diverse contexts of all Member States. While achieving this, the Project is building benefits for the judoka community by supporting their retirement process at the end of their professional sport career. Objectives The scope of SCHOOLJUDO.EU is to develop and pilot an educational module for primary schools in Europe. The Project is based on judo moral code and aims to a) develop physical and interpersonal skills in primary school children through judo training and playful teaching classes, b) enhance the cooperation between judo discipline and primary education, c) to engage retiring judokas as trainers, supporting their transition to a new career in education. Implementation The project was organized into four stages: 1) Researching & developing the protocols and materials to successfully adapat the “Judo in School” program to a set of diverse contexts throughout the EU, 2) Validation and adaptation of the resulting material, 3) Piloting of a 12-weeks long training and educational module in 3 primary schools across Europe, 4) Finalizing the knowledge base as a fully transferable practice with Dissemination and Advocacy.
